Teti Armiati Argo, Ph.D. is a senior expert in regional and rural planning, community-based development, environmental management, and community resilience, with extensive experience in research, higher education, policy development, and community capacity building in Indonesia. As a member of Perkumpulan INISIATIF, she contributes to the organization’s intellectual and professional community dedicated to advancing knowledge-based development, meaningful public participation, and social justice. As an academic at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), she has developed a distinguished body of work connecting spatial planning with the social, ecological, and institutional challenges facing communities, particularly in vulnerable and rapidly changing regions
Throughout her academic and professional career, Teti has advanced planning approaches that place communities, environmental sustainability, and local institutions at the center of resilient and inclusive territorial development. Her research and professional contributions encompass community-based disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, coastal community resilience, collaborative environmental management, environmentally sensitive regional planning, and urban-rural linkages. Her research on fishing communities in Indramayu and environmental management in coastal areas demonstrates a consistent commitment to development approaches that go beyond physical and spatial interventions by strengthening community capacity, resilience, and agency in responding to environmental change, disaster risks, and broader development challenges
Teti holds a Bachelor’s degree from Institut Teknologi Bandung, a Master of Environmental Studies from York University, Toronto, Canada, and a Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia, Canada, completed in 2000. Her international academic training has strengthened her interdisciplinary perspective on the complex relationships between regional development, environmental sustainability, resource governance, climate change, and community resilience. The combination of academic scholarship, applied research, regional planning expertise, and community-centered approaches positions her as an important contributor to the social and ecological dimensions of development within Perkumpulan INISIATIF.
