Tata Mustasya is a senior sustainable development, development economics, public policy, and energy transition expert with extensive experience as a researcher, campaigner, policy advocate, and civil society leader. He formally joined Perkumpulan INISIATIF in 2012, bringing a strong background in development economics, public policy, and political economy. His professional journey has evolved from campaigning and policy research into strategic leadership on sustainable development, with a particular focus on the interconnections between social welfare, economic transformation, climate change, and energy policy. He currently serves as Executive Director of Yayasan Kesejahteraan Berkelanjutan Indonesia (SUSTAIN), where he leads an organizational agenda that connects sustainable welfare, environmental sustainability, and economic transformation
Throughout his career, Tata has developed extensive expertise at the intersection of economics, public policy, political economy, climate change, and energy transition. He has worked extensively with government, private sector, academia, research institutions, civil society organizations, and media, while contributing his perspectives through policy research, publications, opinion pieces, books, and international and national policy forums. He previously served as a Climate and Energy Campaigner at Greenpeace Indonesia, where he played an active role in advancing public awareness and policy advocacy on climate change, fossil fuel dependence, and the transition toward clean energy. Through his leadership at SUSTAIN, he has further expanded this agenda by examining the links between energy transition, sustainable welfare, fiscal policy, economic transformation, and democratic governance. His work consistently advocates for a shift from extractive development models toward a greener, more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable economy
Tata holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Development Studies from the Faculty of Economics, Universitas Indonesia, a Master’s degree in Management of Development from the University of Turin, Italy, and has undertaken professional development through the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITC-ILO). The combination of his academic grounding in development economics, experience as a campaigner and researcher, and leadership in civil society has given him a distinctive strategic perspective on Indonesia’s economic and political transformation in a global context. He has emerged as a prominent voice advocating for an integrated development agenda in which sustainable welfare, climate justice, economic transformation, and energy transition are understood as mutually reinforcing priorities.
